Are you a visionary leader?

I have been very fortunate to work with many visionary leaders, a mix of both CEOs as well as role players in an organization that had a huge impact on the business. Each one of them was unique in many ways… Some were visionary on the business front and others on the technical front, but as I think about what was consistent across all of them I could zero in on a few key qualities. If you ask someone else what makes a leader a real visionary, you will likely get a lot of different perspectives – I found the article at the link below frames it up quite well.

  • Emotional Intelligence – This one for me is paramount… If a leader does not possess the ability to connect with others on multiple levels, and they do not inspire their team to follow them… They will not be able to harness the full potential of the business to meet and hopefully exceed their objectives.
  • Creativity – In todays competitive and complex environment, with constant disruptions, if a leader is not continuously innovating and evolving, they will not be able to keep up with those that are actually breaking the status quo.
  • Growth Mindset – Visionary leaders are risk takers, and they see the big picture and will set a clear and shared strategy. Then they will evangelize the strategy, and hold themselves and all others accountable to executing on it.

There are more featured in this article, and many many more if you search online, but these 3 for me are just very foundational and critical today.
