Informative event held by Deltek to set the stage for 2026 as we close out 2025

The Deltek session I attended this week highlighted significant shifts across the federal landscape. Several major agencies, including DHS, Energy, NASA, Transportation, and VA, are seeing budget increases, while others such as Commerce, HHS, and USDA are experiencing notable reductions. Procurement trends also stood out: nearly 70% of contracts terminated for convenience, many tied to DOGE-related efforts, involved small businesses, underscoring increased volatility in certain segments of the market.

GSA’s OneGov initiative is poised to reshape acquisition dynamics by expanding direct OEM partnerships with government buyers. At the same time, the Department of Defense is driving aggressive modernization across the defense acquisition enterprise, aiming for greater speed, flexibility, and interoperability. Contracting officers are also expected to exercise more discretion on set-asides as requirements evolve and budgets shift.

Overall, 2025 marked a year of transformational change, and the insights shared suggest that ongoing transition and adaptation will remain defining themes as we move into calendar year 2026.
